Service to the community is an integral part of Catholic Education. It is following Jesus' mandate to reach out and help the less fortunate. Service hours do not mean only "not getting paid." Service hours help the community through free service that directly benefits the marginalized. Work must be done through community service organizations that are recognized non-profit institutions.
Service hours are to be fulfilled at organizations listed on the "approved" list link below. This list is given out the first week of school and posted on the Campus Ministry page on Edline.
Any exceptions to the "approved list" are to be pre-approved by campus minister in writing. A copy of the pre-approval form will be placed in the student's folder.
Service hours will not be accepted unless they are on the approved list or have been pre-approved.
Any service done for your Church Parish
· Service done at public/private schools
· parish municipal services (ex: parks & recreation, library)
· nursing homes and hospitals (not individual doctor offices)
· publicly run afterschool programs (not private daycare centers)
· Summer camps run by non-profit organizations (ex: AOL, ICS, Shaw) · Non-profit animal shelters (ex: ARNO, PAWS)
· Food pantries and soup kitchens (ex: Second Harvest)
