Service Week is a great tradition at Academy of Our Lady. For 11 years in celebration of Catholic Schools Week and St. John Bosco, students have been serving the Greater New Orleans area during the annual Service Week.
Beginning January 27 – January 31 each class visited various non-profit organizations. Service sites included City Park, Wynhoven Healthcare Center, Arc of Greater New Orleans, Crossroads Louisiana, Our Lady of Wisdom Healthcare Center, Second Harvest Food Bank, Habitat for Humanity, Eden House New Orleans, St. Paul the Apostle Head Start and the Jean Lafitte Barataria Preserve.
When not out on service, students attended presentations given by guest speakers on various topics directly related to the week’s overall theme, Pursuing Holiness Through Virtue. Topics covered were abortion, vocation, human trafficking, college safety, living virtuously, vaping, following your passion, college safety and charity.
Also, new to service week, were career presentations given by numerous accomplished Archbishop Blenk High School, Immaculata and Academy of Our Lady alumnae from various professional fields.
