November’s Fantastic Friday Night was held on campus in person where prospective Penguins engaged in a friendly Thanksgiving competition. Fantastic Friday Night was hosted by the math department and the Leadership Class.
Academy of Our Lady students and teachers worked to make the night fun and educational as Fantastic Friday was on campus for the first time since the 2019-20 school year due to the COVID-19 protocols. The evening brought 28 students to campus from 12 schools.
The night started off with a simple “hand turkey” reflection on what kind of qualities guests thought would make a great leader and then moved to playing “What’s in the Turkey?” During this game participants swere presented with an object and were challenged to figure out what the object represented in terms of leadership. Also, mathematics teachers led a “math bingo.”
“Students were given a problem to solve and the answer was the number they needed to mark off the bingo card. We played one game of ‘black out’ with students showing off their math skills,” said Mr. Sean Murray, math teacher.
Leadership Class students organized a “table setting relay” in which six participants were given a number, shown a picture to remember, and then had to set a table accordingly. Other students able to help participants in case they forgot where something went.
The last game was a “math escape room” where the participants had to find the location of Penelope Penguin. Mr. Murray explained how the math escape room worked. “When they solved the puzzle correctly, they checked with the ‘Puzzlemaster.’ If they were correct, they were moved into another break out room,” he said.
