Seniors Emily Lubag, Patricia Lubag and Hannah Bassett received a surprise delivery from Nicholls State University. The red box contained a notification that each student received an academic scholarship worth a notable monetary amount. Emily Lubag received $51,600, Hannah Bassett received $45,600 and Patricia Lubag received $26,080 over the span of four years. Congratulations ladies! We are proud of you! Academy of Our Lady’s Golden Torch Society honors academic achievement on the ACT. There are two tiered categories within the Golden Torch Society. The Core of Excellence includes students who have scored a composite of 30 or above on the ACT. Students with a composite of 25 or above on the ACT are included in the Inner Circle. The Golden Torch Society was created by the guidance department to encourage, promote and celebrate academic excellence. Members will be continually added throughout the school year as students meet the ACT requirement. Students and their families had the opportunity to attend the annual college fair hosted by the Academy of Our Lady Guidance Office on Wednesday, October 9. With more than 30 university representatives in attendance, students had numerous options to explore and research as they begin to determine where they will attend college in the future. Seniors gathered in the Library during their lunch study hall on October 15 for College Application Day hosted by the Guidance Department. The guidance counselors and representatives from the Louisiana Office of Student Financial Assistance, University of New Orleans and Southeastern Louisiana University were present to assist seniors with the application process. “College Application Day is important as it provides students a time during their busy schedule to apply to at least one college or university while providing them with the assistance and guidance they need to accurately complete these applications,” College Advisor Ms. Rye explained.
