Academy of Our Lady celebrated the Nativity of Mary with Mass on September 8. At the end of Mass members of Student Council for the 20-21 school year were inducted. Student Council officers, the executive board and class officers took an oath in front of their peers to serve as official representatives for the students and live the values of a Catholic Christian. Members of Academy of Our Lady’s Student Council attended the Louisiana Association of Student Councils State Convention in Pineville, Louisiana the weekend of January 18. Ninety-seven high schools from throughout Louisiana were present at LASC. Students gathered on November 15 for the annual Homecoming Dance at the Crystal Palace in Harvey. During the dance members of the homecoming court were honored and the 2019-2020 homecoming queen and king were crowned. Students celebrated homecoming at the Fall Formal on November 16 at the Crystal Palace in Harvey. Senior Samantha Arnold was crowned Fall Formal Queen and Archbishop Shaw senior Johnny Mitchell was crowned Fall Formal King. A wonderful time was had by all those who attended. Spirit Week culminates with the annual Powderpuff games and Homecoming Assembly. Each grade level forms a Powderpuff team, most commonly known as a flag football team, to compete against one another. Spirit points are tallied throughout the week based on participation in activities including penny wars, games during lunch and dressing out according to the daily theme. Perhaps one of the most exciting times of the year at Academy of Our Lady is Spirit Week. Each day during Spirit Week students dressed according to the day’s theme to earn spirit points. This year’s daily themes included Mars Monday, Tacky Tuesday, Wildlife Wednesday and Prepare for Battle (class colors in anticipation of Powderpuff). To view photos click on the title of this post.
Academy of Our Lady Student Council Officers, Class Officers and Homeroom Representatives were inducted following Mass on September 12.
