Eight Academy of Our Lady bowlers were honored for their dedication to the team throughout their high school career on March 11. The Academy of Our Lady bowlers successful won their match against Kenner Discovery Health Sciences Academy with a score of 24.5-2.5.
The bowling team has completed the first third of the season undefeated with a 4 and 0 record defeating Mount Carmel Academy, Crescent City Christian School, Albany High School and Salmen High School. The Penguins competed in the Louisiana Invitational Baker Tournament held in Baton Rouge on Saturday, February 2. Academy of Our Lady athletes were honored by the Westbank Quarterback Club on May 23. The 2018 Bowling Team was honored for their achievement of winning the LHSAA State Championship. Senior Erin Burkart received recognition as the LHSAA Individual State Bowling Champion. Senior Hailee Richard was selected as Academy of Our Lady’s 2017-18 Westbank High School Outstanding Female Athlete of the Year. Richard was also the recipient of the Ennis H. A reception was held on campus April 25 to honor the student athletes at Academy of Our Lady who have committed to play on the collegiate level. Senior Hailee Richard will play volleyball at Spring Hill College in Mobile, Alabama, senior Sofia Lopez will play soccer at Belhaven University in Jackson, Mississippi and senior Erin Burkart will bowl at Mount St. Mary’s University in Emmitsberg, Maryland. Senior Erin Burkart signed and committed to attending Mount St. Mary’s University in Emmitsburg, Maryland. Mount St. Mary’s University awarded Burkart an Athletic Scholarship for Bowling and a Leadership Grant. Burkart led the bowling team in winning the first State Championship in Academy of Our Lady’s short history. She is also the LHSAA State Singles Bowling Champion.
