Girls ages 8-13 have taken over Penguin Park June 14-17 for Softball Camp hosted by Academy of Our Lady’s Softball coaching staff and team members. Players are working on enhancing fielding fundamentals and batting techniques. The goal is for attendees to have a great time while learning something new. Good luck to the Softball Team as they play St. Thomas More High School tomorrow (April 23) at 4:30 pm in the State Quarterfinal matchup! Senior Softball Team members were honored for their time and dedication to the Academy of Our Lady Athletic Program on Tuesday, April 6. Each senior was presented with a gift and flowers on the mound of the softball field for a pregame celebration prior to taking on De La Salle. We are thrilled to see what these young ladies accomplish in the future. Join us Thursday, April 15 as we honor the 2020 seniors from last year during the pregame ceremony at 4:30 pm. Academy of Our Lady senior Gina Escude has been awarded an athletic scholarship to play softball at Southeastern Louisiana University. On November 13, students, faculty, staff and family were on hand to support Escude as she signed a national letter of intent to play at Southeastern Louisiana University. Escude was named to the Westbank Quarterback Club and first team All-District in 2018 and 2019. While at Southeastern Louisiana University Escude plans to study elementary education. Senior Magen Authement signed a letter of intent to play softball at Millsaps College in Jackson, Mississippi on January 23. Authement has been a student at Academy of Our Lady since 2014 as an eighth grade student. In addition to maintaining a 4.0 GPA, Authement is a member of the National Honor Society, National English Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, Sparkles of Light and Health Care Club. She is also the captain of the Softball Team. She plans to major in Biology in hopes of one day becoming a doctor. To view photos click on the title of this post.
Academy of Our Lady welcomes Frank Palmisano to the athletic staff as the new Head Softball Coach for the 2018-19 school year. Palmisano is a familiar face at Academy of Our Lady as he was previously an assistant softball coach during the 2016-17 school year. He brings with him a wealth of knowledge and more than 30 years of coaching experience as he makes his return to the Academy. To read more about Coach Frank click on the title of this post.
Academy of Our Lady athletes were honored by the Westbank Quarterback Club on May 23. The 2018 Bowling Team was honored for their achievement of winning the LHSAA State Championship. Senior Erin Burkart received recognition as the LHSAA Individual State Bowling Champion. Senior Hailee Richard was selected as Academy of Our Lady’s 2017-18 Westbank High School Outstanding Female Athlete of the Year. Richard was also the recipient of the Ennis H.
