Senior Kacey Lyon has accepted an athletic scholarship to play volleyball at Louisiana College in Pineville, Louisiana. Lyon has earned a number of accolades this year including being named to NOLA.com’s All-Metro Volleyball Team, Clarion Herald’s Elite Volleyball Team, 2020 Louisiana Volleyball Coaches Association All-State Team and Division II District 8 2020 All-District Offensive MVP. Senior Abigail Melling has been named to 20-21 LHSAA All-Academic Girls Volleyball Team. Melling has been a student at Academy of Our Lady for the past five years as well as a member of the volleyball team for five years. She currently holds a 4.38 GPA. Melling is a member of National Honor Society, National English Honor Society, Science National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, Rho Kappa, Ambassadors, Book Club, Students Against Destructive Decisions, Robotics and Salesians for Life. Academy of Our Lady’s volleyball team celebrated six senior team members with Senior Night on Tuesday, October 20. During the pregame ceremony seniors Kacey Lyon, Madelyn Whitefield, Madison Romano, Abigail Melling, Lacey Johnson and Dylan Ferguson were honored by the athletic department and the Academy of Our Lady Penguin Cheer Squad for their dedication to the athletic program for the past 5 years. Five members of the 2019 Academy of Our Lady volleyball team, including senior Re’vin Cobb, senior Kennidee Bailey, senior Leigha Cox, sophomore Emily Eschete and junior Kacey Lyon, were named to the All-District Team for Division II District 8. Sophomore Emily Eschette was also named the Most Valuable Defensive Player while Head Coach Don Landry was named Coach of the Year. For more click on the title of this post.
Senior volleyball players were honored prior to the start of the varsity game on October 30 for their commitment and dedication to Academy of Our Lady’s Athletic Program. Following the presentation, the team defeated the Belle Chasse Cardinals in 4 sets to capture the District Championship with a score of 25-22, 23-25, 25-23 and 25-18. Notable highlights include senior Leigha Cox with 13 digs, senior Re’vin Cobb with assists 27, freshman Je’da Williams with 11 kills, senior Kenidee Bailey with 4 blocks and sophomore Emily Bourg with 3 aces. The Academy of Our Lady Cheerleaders rallied the school together for the annual Pink Volleyball Game on October 3. The volleyball team defeated De La Salle. Before the game students tailgated in the student courtyard participating in different games and activities, sponsored by the National Art Honor Society, Photography Club and Key Club. In addition to overseeing Pink Game events, the cheerleaders also hosted a bake sale. Homerooms decorated the gym wall mats as part of a competition for the best pink decorations. The Academy of Our Lady Volleyball Team defeated Central Lafourche on September 17 in 3 sets with the score of 25-20, 25-7, and 25-10. Academy of Our Lady is currently 6-0. Academy of Our Lady’s annual Pink Game benefiting Ochsner Cancer Research was held October 9. Academy of Our Lady students painted the gym pink while supporting the volleyball team as they played Belle Chasse High School. Pre-game activities included a pink-themed photobooth hosted by the photography club, tailgate games, a bake sale and a special ceremony coordinated by the Academy of Our Lady Cheerleaders to honor those who have been affected by breast cancer. Our Academy of Our Lady Varsity volleyball team beat Carver in 3 sets on September 6th. The scores for the 3 sets were 25-6, 25-6, and 25-14. AOL's team leader in kills was Kacey Lyon with 7. The leader in digs was Emily Eschette with 4. Abbie Robichaux led the team in assists with 8. Kylie Howell and Emily Eschette led the team with 6 aces each.
Academy of Our Lady athletes were honored by the Westbank Quarterback Club on May 23. The 2018 Bowling Team was honored for their achievement of winning the LHSAA State Championship. Senior Erin Burkart received recognition as the LHSAA Individual State Bowling Champion. Senior Hailee Richard was selected as Academy of Our Lady’s 2017-18 Westbank High School Outstanding Female Athlete of the Year. Richard was also the recipient of the Ennis H. A reception was held on campus April 25 to honor the student athletes at Academy of Our Lady who have committed to play on the collegiate level. Senior Hailee Richard will play volleyball at Spring Hill College in Mobile, Alabama, senior Sofia Lopez will play soccer at Belhaven University in Jackson, Mississippi and senior Erin Burkart will bowl at Mount St. Mary’s University in Emmitsberg, Maryland.
