Theatre and choir classes produced a Christmas Play for family, friends, faculty, staff and the student body. Performances took place December 13 and 16. Students in theatre and choir class were responsible for each component of the production from the script, music, costumes to the performance itself.
Nationally known singer/songwriter, worship/retreat leader Lorraine Hess visited the True Love Waits club on December 16. Hess spoke about how to grow in faith, so that when a time of testing happens, we can get through it with grace. To view pictures and for more click on the title of this post.
Academy of Our Lady’s chapter of the National Honor Society hosted the school wide annual holiday food drive. Each homeroom participated by collecting a total 765 items for the St. Vincent de Paul Society at Immaculate Conception Parish. Click on the title of this post for more photos.
The Academy of Our Lady Cheerleaders were recently named the LHSAA Division II 2019 Game Day State Runner Up. The squad also won first place in the Game Day Division at the Spirit Blast Competition. To view photos click on the title of this post.
Academy of Our Lady’s Mission Club hosted a Christmas Toy Drive. The Toy Drive is an annual tradition to which the students, faculty and staff contribute. Students assisted representatives from Algiers Charter by packing up their cars with items collected for Landry-Walker High School and Martin Behrman Charter students. Student Council and the Language department hosted a Fantastic Friday Night for girls in 4th-6th grade. Leadership Night on the Polar Express was the theme for the evening. Students took part in various activities including creating ornaments with characteristics of a leader labeled on them for the leadership tree, decorating gingerbread cookies, learning team building techniques by participating in a snowball fight, writing Christmas jingles and making Christmas cards for the elderly. Academy of Our Lady’s student body was treated to a special musical Christmas performance by the Archbishop Shaw band and color guard on December 13 during lunch. The band play a medley of Christmas classics while the color guard performed. For photos click on the title of this post.
Academy of Our Lady’s Golden Torch Society honors academic achievement on the ACT. There are two tiered categories within the Golden Torch Society. The Core of Excellence includes students who have scored a composite of 30 or above on the ACT. Students with a composite of 25 or above on the ACT are included in the Inner Circle. The Golden Torch Society was created by the guidance department to encourage, promote and celebrate academic excellence. Members will be continually added throughout the school year as students meet the ACT requirement. Alumnae gathered on campus December 12 for the annual Alumni Memorial Mass. The student body, faculty, staff and guests honored and remembered all those who have gone before us who were members of the Academy of Our Lady, Archbishop Blenk and Immaculata family. Students currently enrolled in the Health Occupation Intern I elective class completed their clinical rotations at West Jefferson Medical Center and were presented with a graduation certificate by the education coordinator at the closure ceremony. Health Occupations Intern I is an elective course offered at Academy of Our Lady which allows students to shadow nurses and doctors in various facets of the medical field.
Big sisters and their little sisters gathered in the gym during lunch on December 6 for the annual Big Sis Little Sis Christmas Party. Students took part in various fun holiday games and exchanged gifts with one another. For more photos click on the title of this post.

Five members of the 2019 Academy of Our Lady volleyball team, including senior Re’vin Cobb, senior Kennidee Bailey, senior Leigha Cox, sophomore Emily Eschete and junior Kacey Lyon, were named to the All-District Team for Division II District 8. Sophomore Emily Eschette was also named the Most Valuable Defensive Player while Head Coach Don Landry was named Coach of the Year. For more click on the title of this post.
