Members of Academy of Our Lady and Archbishop Shaw High School’s Key Club visited the Ronald McDonald House in New Orleans giving their time to help the residents. Students gathered on November 15 for the annual Homecoming Dance at the Crystal Palace in Harvey. One of the most exciting times of the year for students at Academy of Our Lady is Spirit Week! Throughout the week students dressed to a daily theme including dress as your future career, dress as your favorite TV character, sweater weather Wednesday and class colors on Thursday and Friday. Keeping with tradition Spirit Week culminated with powderpuff games and a homecoming assembly where the homecoming court was announced and the spirit megaphone was awarded to the grade level with the most spirit points earned throughout the week, the seniors. Academy of Our Lady’s Student Council invites girls in 4 th-6 th grade to Leadership Night on the Polar Express! Students will participate in activities designed to identity and strengthen leadership skills. Students will take away tools and key techniques needed to be a successful leader. Students are encouraged to dress in their favorite Christmas attire or Christmas pajamas! All girls interested in leadership are invited to attend. Registration is required by Wednesday, December 11. Academy of Our Lady senior Gina Escude has been awarded an athletic scholarship to play softball at Southeastern Louisiana University. On November 13, students, faculty, staff and family were on hand to support Escude as she signed a national letter of intent to play at Southeastern Louisiana University. Escude was named to the Westbank Quarterback Club and first team All-District in 2018 and 2019. While at Southeastern Louisiana University Escude plans to study elementary education. Academy of Our Lady's volleyball team is set to play against Ben Franklin High School in the quarterfinals of the state playoffs on Thursday. Play begins at 8:30 pm at the Pontchartrain Center in Kenner. Good luck ladies! #GEAUXPENGUINS #PenguinPride
Academy of Our Lady’s annual Open House was held on Thursday, November 7. More than 130 prospective students and their families toured the Academy of Our Lady’s state-of-the-art campus, gained insight into the challenging college preparatory curriculum, learned more about the unique elective offerings, perused extracurricular displays, met current students and experienced the Salesian family spirit. Academy of Our Lady celebrated the Feast of All Saints in a very special way with Grandparents Day. On November 1 grandparents were invited to campus for mass with their granddaughters. Grandparents and students were also treated to coffee and donuts. To view photos click on the title of this post.
The Law Studies class traveled to the Jefferson Parish District Attorney’s Office on Monday, October 21. Students were able to observe two courtrooms. In addition, the students experienced what is was like to be in court on motion day and met many people within the law field who imparted great wisdom and advice.
Senior volleyball players were honored prior to the start of the varsity game on October 30 for their commitment and dedication to Academy of Our Lady’s Athletic Program. Following the presentation, the team defeated the Belle Chasse Cardinals in 4 sets to capture the District Championship with a score of 25-22, 23-25, 25-23 and 25-18. Notable highlights include senior Leigha Cox with 13 digs, senior Re’vin Cobb with assists 27, freshman Je’da Williams with 11 kills, senior Kenidee Bailey with 4 blocks and sophomore Emily Bourg with 3 aces.
