Academy of Our Lady’s school yearbook, "Fleur De Lis," was honored with three awards at a journalism conference at Loyola University. At the annual Journalism Education Association (JEA) / Loyola Media Day on September 26, the yearbook received citations for feature story writing and for overall graphical design in the conference's annual yearbook competition.
Joseph Bordlee, English and yearbook teacher, accepted the awards from Albert Dupont, JEA Louisiana State Director.
The yearbook received a Second Place citation for "Graphics and Artwork"; First Place in Feature Writing for an interview and report by alumna Jalynn Dibble, Class of 2019; and Second Place in Feature Writing for an interview and report by alumna Victoria Parria, Class of 2019.
Dibble wrote a feature story about Sister Boram Lee, a Salesian sister who visited the Academy during the 2018-19 school year and inspired students with her energy and commitment to her vocation. Parria wrote a feature story about alumna Emilie Adams, Class of 2019, who visited Europe and whose travels included an inspiring visit to the shrine to Mary, the mother of Jesus, in Lourdes, France.
Mr. Bordlee and Ms. Carla Sumner, mass media and newspaper journalism teacher, represented the Academy at the conference.
