There is a special person students, faculty, and staff at the Academy of Our Lady hold near to their hearts and her name is Sr. Lillian Foxx. She is a ray of sunshine in the halls and when students leave her class, they surely know that oso means bear in Spanish.
Sr. Lillian completed her Perpetual Vows this summer. We are so happy for her and that we are all able to see Jesus through her at Academy of Our Lady every day!
What called you to serve in the Sisterhood? I am from the south side of Chicago, and come from a hard-working, devout Catholic family. I felt the call to answer religiously since the seventh grade, although I was often told to pray and wait. Things happen in God’s time, not ours, so I found the Salesian Sisters just at the right time.
What is a Perpetual Profession? On August 5, 2021, I had the joy of making my Perpetual Profession in New Jersey. My parents and brother were able to attend. Four Sisters made their Perpetual Profession, and two made their First Profession, including Sr. Natasha Roig, also a Spanish Teacher at the Academy of Our Lady. After six years of temporary vows, which are renewed on an annual/biannual basis, a Salesian Sister makes her Perpetual or “Forever” vows. I made this commitment with my whole heart, and I am very grateful to my AOL family for supporting and praying for me in my vocation. We wore crowns to symbolize fidelity, and we signed our vows on the altar to show our firm commitment of giving ourselves totally to God. New Jersey is the home of our Provincial House, or main house of the Eastern Province. It was wonderful to see everyone and celebrate with the Sisters, but I was very happy to come back to Louisiana to celebrate here as well.
What were your feelings while making your vows? I was not a bit nervous. I was so happy, and I felt very much at peace.
How did it feel to return to AOL and share in this celebration with your AOL family? This is my fourth year at AOL, and I was very happy to celebrate this occasion with my AOL family by having ice cream for everyone! After the Back to School Assembly, we were able to enjoy this treat together in true Salesian fashion.
What aspect of serving as a Sister means the most to you? I love serving God’s will by bringing young people to God, following the example of St. John Bosco and St. Mary Mazzarello, with the support of my Sisters.

“When nothing seems to help, I go and look at a stonecutter
hammering away at his rock, perhaps a hundred times without as
much as a crack showing in it. Yet at the hundred and first
blow it will split in two, and I know it was not that last
blow that did it, but all that had gone before.”
