Graduation 2021

Academy of Our Lady celebrated its fourteenth baccalaureate mass on campus in Marrero on May 11. Commencement exercises were held on May 17, 18, 19 with private ceremonies for each graduate and her family. 

Diplomas were awarded to 109 graduates by Principal Sister Michelle Geiger. The Class of 2021 earned a total of $7,949,556 in scholarships. In addition, Academy of Our Lady’s Class of 2021 is leaving campus with a total 468 college credit hours.

Martha Mundine, Deputy Superintendent of Catholic Schools of Archdiocese of New Orleans, addressed the graduates during the baccalaureate mass.
 
The valedictorian is Olivia Rachel Marque, of Crown Point. Marque is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Steven Marque. She plans to attend the University of Mississippi on scholarship where she will major in Chemical Engineering.

The salutatorian is Farrah Frances Labadie, of Harvey. Labadie is the daughter of Ms. Lori Labadie. She plans to attend Loyola University New Orleans on scholarship where she will major in Psychology.

Honor graduates are Kate Virgina McPherson, Megan Elizabeth O' Brien, Nha Cao Nguyen, Abigail Elizabeth Melling, Brianne Elizabeth Rotolo, Victoria Lee Giepert, Tyler Elena Scott, Cameron Elaine Haydel, Ally Marie Price, Linh Tu Luu, Lindsey Caroline Rossano, Asra R. Abdeljabar, Kathryn Maud Manning, Taylor Lynn Tran, Kimmy Pham Tran, Brooke Marie Bourg, Molly Yvonne Adams, De'ja' Lynette Borden, Emily Michelle Lubag, Janette Pina and
Sasha Holidae Jackson.

Three of Academy of Our Lady’s most prestigious awards were presented at the baccalaureate mass. The Fiat Voluntas Tua Award at Academy of Our Lady is the highest award presented to a graduate whose life of character, service, leadership and school spirit reflects openness to God’s plan for her and for all those she encounters. The 2021 Fiat Voluntas Tua Award was presented to Lacey Venita Johnson, of Westwego.

The 2021 Golden Scepter Award recipient was Britney Lyne Bui, of Gretna for completing 631 hours of service. The Golden Scepter Award reflects the image of Mary under the title of “Help of Christians.” Although each graduate is required to fulfill 75 hours of service, the Golden Scepter Award honors a graduate who has gone over and above the required hours.

The Unheralded Senior Award, is voted on by the faculty to recognize a senior who works hard in a quiet way, continually giving of herself, willing to work in every possible way for the school. She does this without seeking recognition and without calling attention to herself. The Unheralded Senior Award was presented to Macy Alexa Crowden, of Avondale.

The Rotary Club Award is presented to an outstanding senior who demonstrates qualities of leadership and service. Rotary International values the contribution of youth to their communities through volunteer service. The recipient of this award is Kaitlyn Anne Shipley, of Marrero.

Unique to Academy of Our Lady is the Program of Academic Majors. The Program of Academic Majors affords students the opportunity to gain hands-on professional experience prior to stepping foot on a university campus.  This program is offered in conjunction with the required college preparatory curriculum. Academy of Our Lady offers five paths of study through the Program of Academic Majors including Health Science, STEM, Law & Civil Leadership, Culinary Arts and Fine Arts. A total of 49 students completed the coursework required to receive the honor of wearing a regalia honor cord reflective of the major during graduation.
