Girls in 4th-7th grade are invited to experience a fun night filled with all things Academy of Our Lady Penguins and the Salesian family Spirit at Penguin Palooza on Friday, April 9 at 6:30-8:30 pm. The cost to attend is $10. Registration is required. Registration includes a limited-edition Penguin Palooza mask. Registration will be accepted online until Wednesday, April 7. Before venturing to Dallas, Texas to compete in the NCA High School National Competition, Academy of Our Lady Cheer held a performance showcase for family and friends on Wednesday, March 3. Mark your calendars! Academy of Our Lady’s annual Basket & BBQ Bash is back! Basket & BBQ Bash will be held on campus Saturday, March 27! Attendees will enjoy a delicious BBQ lunch prepared by our dad’s club, more than 30 raffle baskets and Easter bunny photos. Due to Covid-19 extra safety precautions will be taken. Seniors Emily Lubag, Patricia Lubag and Hannah Bassett received a surprise delivery from Nicholls State University. The red box contained a notification that each student received an academic scholarship worth a notable monetary amount. Emily Lubag received $51,600, Hannah Bassett received $45,600 and Patricia Lubag received $26,080 over the span of four years. Congratulations ladies! We are proud of you! Construction of the new practice track is well underway. Currently, compacting of the area where the track will be is done and the outline of the track can now be seen. Academy of Our Lady’s Athletic Department hosted the school’s annual Golf Tournament Saturday, February 20. During the week of February 1-5, Academy of Our Lady’s chapter of the National Honor Society sponsored a school-wide food drive. The Academy of Our Lady Ambassadors are a group of enthusiastic students that love their school and want to share their experiences with others. The girls represent Academy of Our Lady at various school events including Open House, Fantastic Friday Night, Penguin Palooza and Catholic Schools Week Mass to name a few. On February 1, this group of dedicated students were presented with an Ambassador pin. Being an Academy of Our Lady Ambassador is an honor as there is an application process and the students must meet certain academic criteria. The Ambassadors represent the school with grace while maintaining exceptional academic grades as well as being involved in numerous extracurricular activities. We are proud of these young ladies! Academy of Our Lady is thrilled to announce the newest addition to campus and the athletic facilities, a high school practice track. Construction begins early February. With the completion date projected in mid-April. To read more information about the project click on the title of this post.
Students currently taking the Law Internship class offered at Academy of Our Lady participated in a mock trial. The case dealt with accidental gun violence. Each student played an important role in the trial from the defense, prosecution and members of the jury to witnesses. Ms. Matherne, the Law Intern teacher who is an attorney and has more than 20 years of experience practicing law, acted as judge. The Law Intern class is one of many unique electives offered at Academy of Our Lady through the Program of the Academic Majors. For more click on the title of this post.
Academy of Our Lady students were offered the opportunity to participate in the Knights of Columbus Catholic Citizenship Scholarship Contest. Three students were honored as winners and one student for participation by the Knights of Columbus Archbishop Blenk Council 1905 Gretna. Sophomore Jaden Armond was named the sophomore division winner, New Orleans Diocesan Winner and State First Place Winner receiving $500. Her essay will be submitted in the national competition.
