Academy of Our Lady students competed in the Louisiana Region I Science Olympiad at Nicholls State University on Saturday, March 17.
Academy of Our Lady students in eighth and ninth grade competed in Division B, which is comprised of students in grades 6-9 throughout Louisiana. The Academy of Our Lady Division B team, or junior team, won second place overall in the competition. As the second place winner, the junior team will move on to compete in the Louisiana State Science Olympiad Tournament.
In the Regional Competition, the junior team members placed in the following events:
pre-freshman Emma Palmisano and pre-freshman Sydni Wiltz placed second in Anatomy & Physiology;
freshman Farrah Labadie and pre-freshman Emma Palmisano placed third in Crime Busters;
pre-freshman Macie Morrison and freshman Tyler Scott placed second in Experimental Design;
freshman Asra Abdeljabar and pre-freshman Bailey Cartner placed third in Fast Facts;
pre-freshman Anh Dao and pre-freshman Olivia St. Germain placed second in Herpetology;
pre-freshman Alyssa Woodrum and pre-freshman Bailey Cartner placed third in Meteorology;
pre-freshman Christina Mauldin and pre-freshman Christine Pham placed second in Microbe Mission and Potions & Poisons;
pre-freshman Alyssa Woodrum and pre-freshman Macie Morrison placed third in Rocks & Minerals;
freshman Asra Abdeljabar and freshman Abigail Melling placed second in Thermodynamics;
freshman Asra Abdeljabar and freshman Tyler Scott placed first in Wright Stuff;
freshman Brooke Bourg and freshman Farrah Labadie placed first in Write It, Do It.
Academy of Our Lady freshmen, sophomores, juniors and seniors competed in Division C, which is comprised of students in grades 9-12 throughout Louisiana.
The Division C team, or senior team, placed in a number of events including:
junior Alexandra Mahler and junior Michaela Thaibinh placed first in Forensics;
sophomore Amally Abdeljabar and junior Zarifa Abdeljabar placed first in Write It, Do It;
junior Alexandra Mahler, junior Amelia Russell, and junior Michaela Thaibinh placed second in Experimental Design.
