Academy of Our Lady students placed second in the Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers ProStart Management Competition at the Louisiana ProStart Invitational on February 27. Junior Katie Warrington, of Marrero; senior Hannah Mauduit, of Gretna; senior Katelynn Nguyen, of Marrero; senior Helen Kassahun, of Lafitte and senior Chelsey Termine, of Terrytown, under the guidance of faculty member Chef Tracie Comeaux, worked as a team to present a restaurant concept they developed, which demonstrated their knowledge of the restaurant industry and encompassed key elements such as the menu, design, marketing strategies and budget.
Academy of Our Lady students competing in the ProStart competition are currently enrolled in Foundations of Restaurant Management and Culinary Arts also known as ProStart Level 1 and ProStart Level 2. These are only two of the numerous unique elective courses offered at the Academy. In addition to Academy of Our Lady’s required college preparatory curriculum, the Program of Academic Majors provides students with unique elective opportunities in four subject areas including Culinary Arts, Health Science, Law and Civil Leadership and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math). These elective programs allow students to gain experience, knowledge and insight in a subject area they may wish to pursue on the collegiate level prior to stepping foot on a college campus.
