Academy of Our Lady senior Lacey Johnson has been named a distinguished finalist in The Prudential Spirit of the Community Awards. As a distinguished finalist, Lacey was chosen by state-level judges as one of the top Louisiana runners-up in this year’s program.
The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards program is the United States largest youth recognition program base exclusively on volunteer community service. Middle level and high school students are honored by the program for outstanding service to others at the local, state and national level.
Lacey is student body president and exemplifies service orientated character daily at Academy of Our Lady. She is a leader inside and outside of the classroom.
Lacey is credited with the creation of Sisters in Unity, an organization formed to address sociological issues happening in our world today specifically the importance of racial justice and our call as Christians to be responsible citizens in society. Sisters in Unity has given all students a voice and the opportunity to learn from others’ experiences creating an unbreakable bond Johnson once explained.
In addition, Lacey is a member of National English Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, Health Care Club, Student Union Diversity in Action, Salesians for Life, Stars and Stripes and Ambassadors. Lacey also plays softball for Academy of Our Lady and was once the Track and Field Team manager.
In hopes of becoming a physician assistant, Lacey plans on attending Southeastern Louisiana University where she will major in integrated biology and minor in political science.
