Marrero, LA— Robert Chauvin, Academy of Our Lady’s Bowling Coach, has been named the 2018-2019 Louisiana Coach of the Year by the National Federation of State High School Associations.
The National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) is made up of 51-member state associations including Washington, D.C. and serves 19,500 high schools and more 12 million young people. The NFHS promotes sports participation and athletic programs at the high school level.
The 2018-2019 honorees were selected based upon their coaching performance, lifetime community involvement, school involvement and philosophy of coaching.
Nominated by the Louisiana High School Athletic Association as the most deserving recipient of this honor, Chauvin has been coaching high school bowling since 1980. His notable accomplishments as Academy of Our Lady’s bowling coach include back-to-back State Championships in 2018 and 2019 and Louisiana State Champions of the Invitational Baker Tournament in 2018 and 2019. Since 2017 Academy teams Chauvin has coach earned District Championships five times. As head coach of the varsity bowling team, since Academy of Our Lady’s inception in 2007, each year the team has not had a losing season.
A teacher inside the classroom as well, Chauvin enjoys watching his students and players grow intellectually and athletically. He also values the bond each team has maintained off the lanes beyond their years at Academy of Our Lady.
“I love teaching the kids, interacting with them outside of the classroom in a different environment. Seeing the girls grow as bowlers, as students and young ladies. I love seeing them become better, improving each week,” Chauvin said. “I love the bond the past teams have made with each other many of which have lasted a lifetime.”
As the 2019-2020 Bowling Season gets underway Chauvin is looking forward to continuing to instill the work ethic needed for a successful season. “Our first goal is to become a team. Becoming a team will give us the chance of once again making the playoffs and winning the State Championship,” Chauvin said.
