Tracie Davis is teaching math 8 and algebra I. Davis received a Bachelor of Science in physics with a minor in mathematics and computer science from Xavier University of Louisiana. She then went on to study at the University of Alabama at Birmingham where she received a Master of Science in engineering. Davis is not your ordinary math teacher. For 15 years, Davis worked as a mechanical engineer supporting the Space Program. The retirement of the old space program has allowed Davis to explore her passion of teaching. “I’m a product of an all girls Catholic high school and it gave me the foundation to achieve my dreams of becoming an engineer, Davis explained. “I want to be a resource for young women interested in careers in science.”
Grace Hicks, the newest member of the English department, is teaching both English III British Literature and Dynamics of Effective Study. A veteran to education, Hicks has been teaching for 15 years. She completed her undergraduate education at the University of New Orleans and received a Bachelor of Arts in communication as well as a minor in history. Hicks received her teaching certification from the University of Holy Cross. When she is not teaching, Hicks paints candid portrait oil paintings and enjoys spending time with her family.
Mindy McDonald, an alumna of Immaculata High School class of 2007, is new to the Finance Office. She has joined the staff as the accounting Clerk and oversees the school’s Parent Partnership Program among other tasks.
Andrea Rye joins Academy of Our Lady as the new senior guidance counselor and college advisor. Rye is a graduate of Louisiana State University where she earned a Bachelor of Science in psychology. She received a Master of Arts in counseling from Loyola University New Orleans. A big fan of penguins, Rye is looking forward to working with the faculty and staff at the Academy and more importantly the seniors as they embark on their next journey of college.
Melanie Trosclair is teaching chemistry and computer technology. Currently, Trosclair is studying for a Master of Arts in education with a concentration in secondary science education at Northwestern State University. Trosclair completed her undergraduate studies at Nicholls State University where she received a Bachelor of Science in biology with a minor in chemistry. Following her undergraduate studies, Trosclair interned at the Audubon Aquarium for three months working directly with the penguins and the aviculture staff.
Caralyn Towey is an Auburn University graduate where she received a Bachelor of Science in Human Resource Management with a minor in Finance. Towey is teaching both personal finance and health occupations. Towey worked for four year in healthcare specifically in human resources, patient insurance and administrative roles. She also teaches Sunday school at St. Pius X and has worked with college student as a FOCUS missionary. When asked what she is most looking forward to this year, Towey replied, “getting to know my students and equipping them with skills to identify their unique talents and discover careers they are passionate about.”
Paula Willis, Ph.D. brings to Academy of Our Lady a tremendous wealth of knowledge and 25 years of teaching experience. Dr. Willis is teaching Earth Science and Environmental Science. She received a Bachelor of Science from Louisiana State University and then went on to attend the University of California, Riverside where she earned a Ph.D. in plant pathology. Having taught in New Jesery, Philadelphia and Baton Rouge, Dr. Willis is making her return to the West Bank where she grew up. According to Dr. Willis, she is most looking forward to, ““inspiring and encouraging young women in the sciences.”
