Five members of the 2019 Academy of Our Lady volleyball team, including senior Re’vin Cobb, senior Kennidee Bailey, senior Leigha Cox, sophomore Emily Eschete and junior Kacey Lyon, were named to the All-District Team for Division II District 8. Academy of Our Lady senior Gina Escude has been awarded an athletic scholarship to play softball at Southeastern Louisiana University. On November 13, students, faculty, staff and family were on hand to support Escude as she signed a national letter of intent to play at Southeastern Louisiana University. Escude was named to the Westbank Quarterback Club and first team All-District in 2018 and 2019. While at Southeastern Louisiana University Escude plans to study elementary education. Senior volleyball players were honored prior to the start of the varsity game on October 30 for their commitment and dedication to Academy of Our Lady’s Athletic Program. Following the presentation, the team defeated the Belle Chasse Cardinals in 4 sets to capture the District Championship with a score of 25-22, 23-25, 25-23 and 25-18. Notable highlights include senior Leigha Cox with 13 digs, senior Re’vin Cobb with assists 27, freshman Je’da Williams with 11 kills, senior Kenidee Bailey with 4 blocks and sophomore Emily Bourg with 3 aces. The Academy of Our Lady Cheerleaders rallied the school together for the annual Pink Volleyball Game on October 3. The volleyball team defeated De La Salle. Before the game students tailgated in the student courtyard participating in different games and activities, sponsored by the National Art Honor Society, Photography Club and Key Club. In addition to overseeing Pink Game events, the cheerleaders also hosted a bake sale. Homerooms decorated the gym wall mats as part of a competition for the best pink decorations. Seniors Magen Authement, Madeline Boudreau and Macie Hymel were honored on April 25 for their commitment to continue their athletic journey on the collegiate level. Authement will play softball at Millsaps College in Jackson, Mississippi. Boudreau has committed to playing golf at the University of Nebraska Omaha. Senior Katelyn Luebbert attended the Annual Enterprise Scholar Athlete of the Week Ceremony at the Ochsner Sports Performance Center on Airline Drive on April 22. Luebbert was honored as the one of the October Enterprise Scholar Athlete of the Week Recipients. Every week, throughout the Saints season, the Greater New Orleans Sports Foundation honors a male or female Scholar Athlete of the Week, for excellence in the classroom as well as on the field of athletic competition. The final pep rally of the 2018-19 school year was held April 11. All spring athletic teams as well as the robotics team were honored by their peers. Senior athletes were also recognized for their dedicated to the Academy of Our Lady athletic program. Perhaps the most exciting portion of the pep rally was the unveiling of the bowling team’s 2019 State Championship banner and the softball team’s 2019 district championship banner. The bowling team has completed the first third of the season undefeated with a 4 and 0 record defeating Mount Carmel Academy, Crescent City Christian School, Albany High School and Salmen High School. The Penguins competed in the Louisiana Invitational Baker Tournament held in Baton Rouge on Saturday, February 2. Senior Magen Authement signed a letter of intent to play softball at Millsaps College in Jackson, Mississippi on January 23. Authement has been a student at Academy of Our Lady since 2014 as an eighth grade student. In addition to maintaining a 4.0 GPA, Authement is a member of the National Honor Society, National English Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, Sparkles of Light and Health Care Club. She is also the captain of the Softball Team. She plans to major in Biology in hopes of one day becoming a doctor. To view photos click on the title of this post.
