2013 Alumni Holiday Marketplace

The Academy of Our Lady High School Alumnae Board hosted its first Holiday Marketplace on Wednesday, November 20, 2013 from 7:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. at the beautiful Royal Palm located in Harvey.  This exclusive shopping experience featured unique gifts from over 45 vendors including local businesses, artisans and independent consultants.

Nearly 200 guests including many family, friends, and alumnae from Academy of Our Lady, Archbishop Blenk and Immaculata shopped while enjoying hors de vours and cocktails. Over 50 door prizes were given away to lucky participants.

Guests even participated in an Alma Mater "Penny Wars."  Penny wars is a spirit contest the classes at Academy of Our Lady students participate in during Spirit Week.  In the past, both Blenk and Immaculata High Schools held similar contest.  During the contest each class (8th grade, freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors) collect money in jars:  pennies and paper money count for your class and silver change deducts from your class.  So, the goal is to get as many pennies and dollars in your class' jar and put silver change in other class' jar.  At the event we had a jar for Archbishop Blenk, Immaculata and Academy of Our Lady.  Archbishop Blenk prevailed as the Alma Mater Penny Wars Champion.

The event raised nearly $2,000 to benefit Immaculata, Archbishop Blenk, and Academy of Our Lady Legacy Scholarships at Academy of Our Lady.

A special thank you goes out to Academy of Our Lady alumna Bettina Bausa '12 for designing the Holiday Marketplace logo used in all event correspondence.  The packages in the design incorporates the mascots of the three schools:  the bottom package has the Archbishop Blenk Dove, the middle package has the Immaculata panda paw, and the top package has the Academy of Our Lady penguin. Ms. Bausa is currently studying graphic arts at Louisiana State University.
