Academy Teacher Honored at Jazz Fest

Clark J. Knighten, chorus teacher at Academy of Our Lady High School, has been awarded the Gospel is Alive Award for 2014 by the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival and Foundation. The citation is awarded to persons who have helped to promote and keep alive the traditions of gospel music.

Knighten, a pianist, vocalist, director, and composer, has performed at the Jazz and Heritage Festival a number of times with the choir from St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in Marrero. He is the music director at Boynton United Methodist Church in Gretna and an accompanist at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church and Shrine to St. Jude in New Orleans. Knighten is also the owner of Black Cat Productions LLC, a music and event coordination company. He is a Xavier University graduate and has done post-graduate studies at UNO and at Loyola University.
