Academy Sophomore Receives President’s Volunteer Service Award

Academy of Our Lady Sophomore Courtney Roberts of Harvey has been honored for her exemplary volunteer service with a President’s Volunteer Service Award.

The award, which recognizes Americans of all ages who have volunteered significant amounts of their time to serve their communities and their country, was granted by The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards program on behalf of President Barack Obama.
Courtney spends her summers volunteering at West Jefferson Medical Center.
She helps the nursing staff by taking vital signs of the heart patients, helping patients with their physical therapy exercises, instructing patients in the steps needed to control their diets, and visiting the patients.
Courtney wants to enter the medical field, and this experience helps her experience the dedication and training needed for the practice of medicine.
The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards, sponsored by Prudential Financial in partnership with the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP), recognizes middle level and high school students across America for outstanding volunteer service.
