AOL Varsity Bowling Team Defeats Undefeated St. Scholastica in a Shoot-out 14.5 to 12.5 to go 4 and 1

The February 18, 2013 match was highly anticipated as the Doves had defeated the Penguins earlier in the season.  A victory would tie AOL for first place with SSA.  In the first game AOL split 3 to 3 in head-to-head competition but the 2 bonus points were earned by SSA by the slim margins, one pin with a total team score of 745 to 746.  Giving the Doves a 5 to 3 victory.  In the second game the Penguins were on fire taking a decisive stand in defeating the Doves in head-to-head competition 4/1/1.  Yes there was a tie.  More importantly the Penguins earned the game bonus points for total pins  with a score of 862 to 815 to win 6.5 to 1.5.  This gave the Penguins a 9.5 to 6.5 lead going into the final game.  The final game was a nail-bitter with every AOL bowler in a position to win their individual game.  However, SSA was victorious in the head-to-head completion going 4 to 2, also earning them the game three bonus points with a score of 853-818 and giving SSA a 6 to 2 victory in the third game.  St. Scholastica’s effort is to be commended, however the Penguins grabbed the victory by earning the final match 3 bonus points by securing the grand total pin fall of 2425 to 2414.  High scorers for the Penguins were:  Linh Dinh’s 167 and 165 games, Ashley Aucoin’s 165 game, and Morgan Thibodeaux’s 148 and 155 games, Lauren Barrois’ 142 game, and Melissa Le’s 141 game.

This was a great victory for the senior laden Penguins.  The victory places AOL in a tie for first place in district with the St. Scholastica Doves.  The Penguins have one more match with the Doves and will probably determine the who the District Champion will be.  As of February 22nd the Varsity team’s record stands at 5 and 1.  With their only loss coming at the hands of SSA in the first match of the season.

After the match, the team went to Petunia’s in Mandeville where the team was hosted by Dawn Bocklud Leboeuf an Immaculata High School alumni and owner of Petunia’s with her husband Darin Leboeuf (pictured above).  The meal was that much better because of the victory and the team thanks Dawn and Darin for hosting the dinner.  We hope to make it a regular victory stop in the future.
