The Academy of Our Lady

Propel to new heights

Justice Walking

A new initiative is beginning at Academy of Our Lady.  Together with Archbishop Shaw High School, our Salesian family has come together to live out Catholic social teaching through a program called Justice Walking.

This “prophet-raising” process brings together students and teachers in a journey toward living out the Gospel message.  Through prayer, retreats, conversation, and encounters, J-Walkers broaden their circle of awareness and expose their lives to the compassionate spirit of Gospel justice.

J Walking starts out with an overnight community building retreat and will continue to meet every other week for six months.  Partnering with Hope House, this group of students will pray, learn, and serve one another as we strive to be more like Christ every day.

JusticeWalking (J-Walking) is a “prophet-raising” process that forms small communities of adults and older teens who experiment with living the Gospel message and the implications of Catholic social teaching. Key to this process are the relationships created within each J-Walking community and those they encounter at the margins of our society.

Through prayer, retreats, reading, dialogue, and encounters, J-Walkers broaden their circle of awareness and expose their lives to the compassionate spirit of Gospel justice.

J-Walking includes twelve weekly sessions, contemplative dialogue on the signs of our times, daylong opening and closing retreats, a weekend justice-immersion pilgrimage, monthly meetings located at a community service agency, maintaining a prayer journal, reading and reflecting on two books together, public presentations, and practicing six lifestyle adjustments that apply Gospel teachings to life choices.
