“Be it known to all who enter here that Jesus Christ is the reason for our schools to exist. He is the ever-present teacher, the model of the faculties, and the inspiration of its students.”

Miami Migrant Camp
During the summer, most teenagers get a job, go on vacation and hang out with their friends, but some had the chance to do something that many do not have the opportunity to experience. Several Academy students traveled to Lake Worth, Florida, for the summer Guatemalan Maya Migrant Camp hosted by Immaculata-LaSalle High School, Miami. Sr. Michelle Geiger, Campus Minister, organized the trip down. She said, “The most important thing we can teach our young people today is how to be active in our communities and to serve others.” And serve they did! The volunteers taught seven classes of a variety of subjects; religion, coking, arts and crafts, chorus, dance, drama, and sports.

“This experience has completely changed our lives,” said Melissa Goens. “We will never forget it. It really touched my heart to see these children look up to me and tell me they want to be just like me.” Truly, this experience helps the participants to realize the truth in St. John Bosco’s statement, “Education is a matter of the heart.”
