Advising

Day-to-day counseling and college and career advising are important parts of an Academy education. A Guidance Director and two college advisors on staff assure that students are prepared for college or for a career. New alliances with colleges and universities offer valuable pre-professional classes and experience in health care, culinary arts, and technology, that lead to jobs with good salaries just a few years after graduation.

TOPS scholarships
Most Academy students receive TOPS scholarships to attend in-state universities. And because of that, TOPS eligibility is a focus from the beginning. The Academy curriculum is designed to assure that students will graduate having met the requirements of TOPS. And teachers emphasize that freshman year is just as important as senior. Students are encouraged to focus on grades from the very beginning to get the 2.5 needed for TOPS. Read the TOPS requirements.

Counseling
The family atmosphere at the Academy means that someone is always on hand to talk to. Students and faculty alike go out of their way to help other members of the Academy community.

College Visits
Many colleges, including Loyola University and Delgado Community College, come to the Academy to interview for scholarships. Seniors also participate in organized visits to college campuses. For a list of colleges who come to visit our campus,  click here.
