Science Olympiad
Science students ruled the day on February 27! The Academy’s Senior and Science Olympiad teams both earned the right to participate in the state tournament in April.
In regional Science Olympiad at Nicholls State University in Thibodaux, the Senior Team placed fifth overall among eighteen teams and the Junior Team finished third overall in a field of eleven teams.
Both teams will show their skills and knowledge at the state tournament in Hammond.
Seven Academy teams won first place victories in their categories. Among Senior Team members, Sarah Breaux, Kayla Salas, and Rachel Lessig all took first place for the “Mission Possible” competition. Among Junior Team members, the following teams finished first : Kathy Le and Clara Bausa in “Disease Detective;” Kathy Le and Emily Fettet in “Ecology;” Ashlin Hinojosa, Melissa Le, and Brittany Nicholson in “Experimental Design;” Ashlin Hinojosa and Lauren Barrios first in “Science Crime Busters;” Lauren Barrios and Maddie Fettet in “Solar System;” Lauren Barrios and Melissa Le, with help from Lisa Phan, in “Trajectory.”
Many other students also placed in their competitions. Here is a list of all other teams that placed.
