Summer and Enrichment Programs

The Academy sponsors several programs throughout the year for elementary and middle school students.  

Summer at the Academy: This two-week enrichment program is especially designed for girls entering the 6th, 7th and 8th grades. The on- and off-campus classes and field trips offered in 2008  - and the Academy staff who guided them – included : Carol Lessig, "Science Olympiad"; Melinda St. Germain, "Web Page Design"; Kelly Favaloro, "Drama and Theater"; Chris Shepard, "Art"; Amy Danos, "Chemistry Fun"; Joseph Bordlee, "Making Your Own Newspaper"; Linda Draggon, "Home Economics"; Tom Chiocchio "Physical Fitness Fun"; Louise LaBruyere, "Music and Chorus"; and Marcia Hubbard, "Etiquette." Students also took field trips including a visit to Rivertown in Kenner for a picnic and to see a laser and dinosaur show; a visit to the National World War II Museum in New Orleans; and a walking tour of the Jackson Square area in the French Quarter.

Penguin Sports Camps: The Penguin Athletic Department offers a number of camps every summer, including basketball, cheerleading and dance.

Academic Fair: Sponsored by the Academy of Our Lady National Honor Society the Academic Fair is an annual competition for the best and the brightest from Westbank Catholic Elementary schools. Students in Grade One through Grade Six compete in Math, English, Religion, and Spelling. Information about this event is sent directly to Catholic Elementary School principals. Participants are chosen to represent their respective school in a specific subject area.
